You May Find  that after upgrading SuperTab, or after upgrading Mac OS X, that certain features of SuperTab no longer work like they did before.

This is a fairly common occurence and often results from Apple's strengthend security policies. And while it is inconvenient to have SuperTab stop working, it is good to have these policies in place for they keep you and your Mac safe.

We have several helpful tips below, but we first suggest that you download and run our Diagnostic Help App. It is specifically designed to help you get SuperTab set up to run and work properly and is easy to use.

If you are still having problems after trying our Diagnostic Help App, or if you prefer a manual approach, try the following steps in order. After performing each step, check to see if SuperTab is working correctly. If not, proceed to the next step.

Step 1: Ensure SuperTab is Running

Let's first make sure SuperTab is running.

Begin by running "Activity Monitor.app". It is located in the Utilities folder which itself is within your Applications folder; just double-click it to launch it.

Once Activity Monitor opens, look for "SuperTab" in the "Process Name" column of the Activity Monitor's window.

  • If SuperTab is not in the list, then double-click "SuperTab.app" within your Applications folder (note that you will not see SuperTab's interface in respose. This is normal). SuperTab should now appear correctly in the list, indicating it is running.

  • If SuperTab is listed in the list more than once, quit all instances by clicking once on each instance to select it and then clicking the "x" button in the upper button bar of the Activity Monitor's window. Once all instances are quit, re-run SuperTab by double-clicking "SuperTab.app" in your Applications folder. SuperTab should now appear correctly in the list, indicating it is running.

  • If SuperTab is in the list just once, then it is correctly running and you can proceed to the next step.

    Step 2: Re-grant System Access

Due to Apple's security, you most likely need to RE-grant System Access to SuperTab for it to again be fully functional:

        • Select "System Preferences..." from your Mac's Apple menu.
        • Click the "Security & Privacy" icon.
        • Click the "Privacy" tab.
        • Click the "Accessibility" item in the left hand list.
        • If the lock in the lower left of the window shows as "locked", click on it and enter your credentials.
        • UN-check the check box next to "SuperTab.app".
        • RE-check the check box next to "SuperTab.app".

Step 3: Check for Anti-Virus Software

It is possible that you have Anti-virus software installed that is preventing SuperTab from being able to detect the keyboard presses used to activate it.

One such application is Webroot SecureAnywhere ("WSA"). If you are running WSA, or some other software with protection against key loggers, you may need to turn that feature off, or exempt SuperTab. (Note that SuperTab does NOT capture your keystrokes, passwords, or any other personal information so it is safe to exempt.)

Step 4: Restart your Mac & Re-verify SuperTab is Running

As a last resort, we suggest that you restart your Mac and then, when it has restarted, again verify that SuperTab is running (as described in step 1 above).

  • If after all of the above you find that SuperTab still doesn't work, please do the following:

  • Configure SuperTab to activate via Option-Tab and via a Hot Corner (any corner will do). To do so:
        - Select "System Preferences..." from your Mac's Apple menu.
        - In the window that opens, click the "SuperTab" icon (usually in the bottom row of icons)
        - After the window contents change, check the "Press Option-Tab" check box.
        - Next, chech any of the four mouse Hot Corners
        - Close the System Preferences App

  • (A) Press Option-Tab (and keep the option key pressed for a least 3 seconds). Note if SuperTab activates or not.

  • (B) Move the mouse into the corner of the main screen of your Mac that corresponds to the Hot Corner you checked (and keep the mouse in the corner for a least 3 seconds). Note if SuperTab activates or not.

  • Contact us via the Support page and let us know you are still having problems and please provide the results of steps (A) and (B) from immediately above. We will begin working with you directly to help resolve the problem.

    Thank you for your understanding.
